Lifetime Achievement Award

Testing Scholarship

MIRID has established a scholarship in honor and recognition of all MIRID Lifetime Achievement Award recipients. This award was created to provide financial support to MIRID members in good standing who are preparing to take a standardized interpreter certification exam. (BEI, RID, EIPA, TEP, CDI etc.) There have been many amazing people in our state who have greatly contributed to and influenced the field of interpreting. This scholarship recognizes these individuals, and seeks to continue in furthering this cause.

The award will be for $100 to help supplement testing fees. This award will be given semiannually, depending on the funds available in this account.  Proof of payment to be shared with the MIRID Treasurer, from the testing entity, will be required before the award can be disbursed. Applicants are eligible to receive this award one time per year.

Please apply a minimum of 45 days, up to a maximum of 90 days prior to the need of the

scholarship.

The Doris Watkins

Workshop Scholarship

The Doris Watkins Workshop Award was established in 2009, in honor of Doris Watkins, one of MIRID’s founding members, and a long time Executive Board member. Doris mentored and supported many interpreters throughout her career. Those who knew her said she paid many registration fees for her mentees/colleagues out of her own pocket, and was genuinely interested in supporting the professional development of our Michigan interpreters.  She will be missed by many.

This scholarship will pay one half of the registration fee for an interpreting related professional development workshop/event.  Monies will be remitted to the applicant after they share proof of registration to the MIRID Treasurer.

Recipients will be chosen by the MIRID Executive Board based on monies available in the fund.  An applicant is eligible to receive this award only one time per year.

Please apply a minimum of 45 days, up to a maximum of 90 days prior to the need of the award.
